Beetroot is naturally long-lasting

There are not many fans of beetroot, but those who like them love to make fries, chips or a delicious beetroot bread. And also: beetroot is not only delicious, but also low in calories. So she can come to the table more often.

But what if you bought the tubers but lack the time to cook? Then that's no problem at all, because you don't have to process and eat the tasty vegetables immediately. It is also possible to make the red tubers durable. And you have several options for this.

This is how you can preserve beetroot

Option 1 - store in the basement:

Beetroot can safely stay in the fridge for about 14 to 28 days. You can also store freshly harvested beetroot in the cellar. Simply knock out a wooden box with plastic wrap and fill it halfway with damp sand. Then add the vegetables and fill the crate with sand to the top. In this way, the beetroot lasts up to five months at temperatures around six degrees Celsius.

Option 2 - freeze:

You can also preserve the delicious vegetables by freezing them. All you have to do is steam the tubers softly, cut them into small pieces and then put them in containers suitable for deep-freezing. You can also use the tubers to cook a beetroot soup and then freeze it.

Option 3 - insert:

You can also pickle the beetroot and make it durable. A true classic is e.g. pickling in vinegar. To do this, boil the beetroot, cut into slices and layer together with a cut onion in mason jars. Then boil a broth of 0.5 liters of vinegar, 1 liter of water, 2 tablespoons of salt and 4 tablespoons of sugar and pour into the glasses. Then seal them immediately and ideally put them in the basement.
